The annual registration fee for students in Icelandic universities is 75.000 ISK. The application to apply for studies is 8.000 ISK. If you currently reside outside of Iceland, it is necessary to check on the Directorate of Immigration Website (click here) to determine if you need a student residence permit. Please visit the Directorate's website to view the requirements needed for a residence permit before submitting an application.
The easiest transport from the capital area to Hólar is by bus. There is a public bus service in Iceland, called “Strætó” with the website www.straeto.is. To get to HU from Reykjavik you will need to catch bus 57. The bus leaves twice a day from the bus station Mjódd in Reykjavik (please check the current timetable at the website) and the final stop is the nearest town Sauðárkrókur. This town is about 35 km away from Hólar so please be in touch with your supervisor/contact person regarding a pickup from the bus station to bring you to Hólar. In Hólar there is no store or petrol station, but in the next town Sauðárkrókur you can find most of the shops and services you need. The next grocery stores are in Sauðárkrókur or in Hofsós, which is a small village 27 km (about 16.8 mi) from Hólar.
Our International Representative is Amber Monroe. If you have questions, please contact her at rnk(a)holar.is. She will give you a warm welcome and answer any enquiries you may have.
