Hólar is a popular destination thanks to its many attractions, notably the beautiful nature and its important role in Iceland's history. Hólar is surrounded by scenic mountains and stands on the edge of Hólar Woods. There is plenty of long and short hiking trails for everyone to enjoy.

What to see
Hóladómkirkja (Hólar Cathedral), Auðunarstofa (Audun's house) and Nýibær (the traditional farmhouse) are open from 10-18 every day in summer. An exhibition on the past bishops of Hólar is also on display in summer time in Hólar University College. The exhibition is open from 10:00-22:00.
Admission is free of charge.
The museum of the Icelandic Horse History Centre displaying the history of the Icelandic horse is open from 10:00-18:00 from June 1st through September 15th.
