The Department of Rural Tourism at Hólar University College invites applications for a full tenure-track position of Assistant Professor. We are looking for an applicant with knowledge and experience to build up research and teaching within the department.
The Department of Rural Tourism at Hólar University College offers bachelor programs in Tourism Studies and Tourism and Hospitality Management, a Master’s program in Tourism Studies, and a Diploma program in Event Management. All programs are offered on line, with on-campus sessions in Hólar.
The Department focusses research on rural tourism, event management, and tourism and hospitality management. The appointed is expected to contribute to the research community in the department through collaboration, research design, funding applications and research dissemination through publications.
The position is based on Hólar Campus, in the municipality of Skagafjörður in North Iceland. The community at Hólar is family friendly and the location both historic and scenic with many outdoor recreation opportunities. See www.holar.is.
The position entails:
• teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
• research in the field of tourism and hospitality management, with emphasis on rural tourism
• participation in national and international research collaboration.
• participation in quality work and administration within the department.
• PhD in Tourism, Hospitality Management or a related field
• research experience
• strong communication and interpersonal skills
• responsibility, initiative, and the ability to plan and lead project work
The evaluation of academic merits will be in accordance with the Act on Public Universities No. 84/2008 and regulations on recruitment and promotion of academic staff at Hólar University College. A temporary appointment may be considered for an applicant about to complete a PhD program. Salary is in accordance with the current collective wage and salary agreement between the relevant union, and the Minister of Finance. Otherwise, rights and obligations follow the Act 70/1996 on the Rights and Obligations of Civil Servants.
The position‘s starting date will be August 1st 2019; application deadline is March 15th 2019.
